This sterling silver Turkish wall mirror is a traditional piece, included in every bride's dowry. The mirror side is meant to be facing the wall when not in use, to display the intricate hand-hammered design on the other side. Handmade in Turkey.
Sourced in Istanbul's The Grand Bazaar, this Turkish wall mirror is a traditional piece, included in every bride's dowry, to be hung at her new home for good luck. The mirror side is meant to face the wall when not in use. Prior to the 19th Century, Turks used mirrors only while getting ready and turned the mirror against the wall at other times. It was believed that it is arrogant and sinful for one to unnecessarily look at themselves in the mirror for longer periods. Hence, the mirrors were turned against the wall, leading to decorating the back of the mirror, which was on display at most times. This mirror is handmade in Turkey.
